Uhm, i had a writer's block!
Just kidding, 2 weeks in Ibiza were great ... but now it's back to work again. Luckily i've got some tunes to keep me going :)
Respect is still burning, as several people asked me to repost some old sets. Well, here's your chance to expand the collection. 2 reposts + a new set by Jef K (i actually thought i had posted this one but seems like i didn't, damn you Alzheimer!). This is house-music the way i like it.
By the way, if you understand the Dutch lingo, here's an interesting review on David Mancuso's set in Paris a few weeks ago at Le Concorde Atlantique aka the Respect boat.

RESPECT: Stuart Mc Lellan
It's sunday, and i'm feeling housy thanks to Derrick Carter's set at Decadence last friday. What else to post but some good old Respect-tunes?
Here's a set Stuart Mc Lellan did back in '99. You may think "who the f* is ...?" Well that's what i was thinking too. Anyhow, even if you don't know him the set is definitely worth checking. Some featured tracks an memories:
E-Troneek Funk's "Everytime", one of my favourite tracks on the Famous when Dead compilations, and often played in H2o-club (white room).
Kenlou's "What a sensation": classic Masters At Work stuff, first heard it in an Amsterdam-tape (recorded at Escape club).
Moodyman's "I can't kick this feeling when it hits": reminds of the first 10daysoftechno at the Red Tape building.
I also have another recording of that same night featuring a live by The Micronauts and a Troublemen-dj set ... will post that one later.

respect to ivan smagghe
My previous Respect-post has been a while, so here's one for the house-headz. That's right, Smagghe used to play house and he played it well! So underneath: a rip from a set he did at Fuse in '99, filled with some vintage French-touch, Basement Jaxx, Paul Johnson and some more bumpy tracks. If you catch him nowadays (i'd advice you to) you'll probably here a more elektro/minimal kinda-sound. Still top-notch!

respect to romain bno
A set recorded in the year 2000 at Fuse, filled with warm house and lots of classics by Jakatta, X-Press 2, Azzido da Bass, Martin Solveig ... yep, it's a "party-set".
Behind the decks: Romain BNO, one of the Respect-residents who at the same time had a residency at Queen-Paris, together with Dimitri from Paris and Ivan Smagghe (i'll post one of his sets later).
The best 74 minutes you'll spend this week :)
Romain bno at fuse, 07.04.00. (Zshare)
Edit: this is not the same set i posted a few months ago, consider this "part1", as the other set was recorded later that evening.

deep, deeper, dj deep
All those in favour of a Belgian edition say "aye"(!).
One of the residents since the early days is dj Deep. After all these years he's still as popular as he used to be, that's why he'll be playing alongside Dennis Ferrer on the 29th of august at Le bateau Concorde Atlantique.
Underneath's a link to a set recorded in the early naughties. Sounds like it was yesterday, but unfortunately it isn't. ("Getting old, are we?")

été d'amour
For those who might doubt it, RESPECT is still going strong, so if you get near Paris this summer, i'd advice to go and chè chè chè chè chè, chè check it out! You can take a look at the wha whawha wha what's it all about over here.
One of the jocks who will once again hit the decks is Romain BNO, a resident since the early days.
Underneath you'll find the set he played at Fuse, 07.04.00 (the same night Dimitri from Paris played, set still online by the way).
From Markus Nikolaï's "Bushes to Blake Baxter's "Sexuality", ...
must have been one hot damn night.

respect is burning: "le mighty Bob" Sinclar
It seems rather ridiculous to write an introduction to one of the biggest so-called superstar dj's of the past few years.
So i'm not going to :)
Cheesy as Bob's sounds may sound now, they're an insult to his early work, and the same goes for his dj-sets.
That's why i suggest you check this set from his early days, and hopefully you'll understand how he became so "big".
74 minutes of disco-influenced house, pure and uncut.
For those who don't know where Bob got his name, have a look at the video underneath. It's a trailer from the "Le magnifique" movie, featuring Jean Paul Belmondo as special agent ... Bob Sinclair.
If you ever get the chance: try and see it. It's one of the funniest french movies around. (if you're into James Bond kinda slapstick)

salome de bahia
I was planning on calming down a bit on the "Respect"-sets, trying to avoid an overload, ... but with this sunny weather, i just had to post the Salome de Bahia live-act. This Brazilian singer stepped into the house-scene in 1998, collaborating with Bob Sinclair (more sets to follow from him). Her biggest hit was Outro Lugar, a re-work of the Stevie Wonder classic "Another Star".The live is about 30 minutes. Playing before her: dj Deep, after her: the mighty Bob Sinclair. 2 sets from the same date will follow later.
listen to Brazilian women, instead of watching them on the internet, Fuse 28.01.00.

monsieur dimi
Previously i posted 2 Respect-sets by Dimitri from Paris.By dope demand i'll be reposting them in the next few days
(and also because they weren't online very long).
In the meantime i have a new set, that is quite different to the Playboy-mansion sets. It contains lots of classics like for ex. Frankie Knuckels' "baby wants to ride", and Harry Thuman's "Underwater"... (re-discovered by lots of dj's the last few years), but also harder tracks such as "Fuck you up" by Blake Baxter. Have a listen!

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. find out what it means to me
As promised, here's another mix from the "Respect is burning" nights. This time it features Jef K, who was the main resident of these parties.
Since 1998 Jef had a residency at Paris' number 1 hotspot: Rex.
On his way to discover the world he played at Brussels' number 1 club Fuse about once a month for 4 years.
His style combines deep and funky house, not forgetting the odd disco-classic once in a while, and doesn't sound typically French (to me it rather sounds like USA kinda house ... but who am i?).
If you like his music, don't forget to check his "My House" series.

respect to st-dic
Being one of the residents at the FOOD-parties, Pascal Saint Dic caught the attention of the FUSE-club. In 1998 he joined the team and gained his spot in the Motion-room.2 years later "Respect is burning" gave him a chance to play in the main room, doing a warming-up set for Dimitri from Paris.
St Dic plays a laidback selection of deep house tunes and sets the party of near the end of his set. Good job!
At the end of 2006 "Scalle" said goodbye to Fuse and to the world, may he rest in peace.

never thought i'd dance to Cindy Lauper again ...
Here's part 2 of Dimitri's set, after all he played a 5-hours set that night (!). In this finale you can expect some sexy house tunes again ... and in his last 30 minutes he rewards the crowd with a big musical "thank you", mixing some top 80ies tunes like Tom Tom Club, Bomb the Bass, Scritti Politti, Cindy Lauper (them girls ...).The last 20 minutes of this recording are mixed by Jef K, a Respect-resident and a "Respected" dj.
He brings that typical sound you just don't seem to hear anymore. (Ask yourself: where can you still hear music like this?)
Warning: this is a "live" tape again, at the end of his set you'll hear the typical FUSE-appreciation as the crowd returns Dimi some love.

paris is burning
Bad luck if you thought you'd find some hot Paris Hilton action, Paris is still the capital of France, and the most burning sensation the frenchies gave us were the RESPECT parties. Check the history of those legendary nights over here.
The set i'm presenting you is mixed by one of the Respect-residents: Dimitri from Paris, and was recorded at the Fuse-club. If i'm not mistaking this was the release-party of the "after the Playboy Mansion" cd.
The Respect-parties at Fuse were well known for their great atmosphere and open-minded crowd, it's a bit of a shame they came to an end in 2003 (that is for Belgium). It seems like nowadays Respect have returned to their Paris roots, last year they hosted some parties spreading the French Edbanger-vibe.
